What personality does a Cavoodle have?

Cavoodles are super smart, but also incredibly gentle dogs. They make the companion for owners young and old. The cavoodle personality traits register as even-tempered, people-oriented, and get along with everyone, including other pets.

Our cavoodle has stayed with grandparents, lives with tweens, and plays with my toddler niece. He is patient, playful, and loves strangers.

Intelligence – The cavoodle is an intelligent dog that thrives with regular training and human interaction.

Energy – High

Suitability for Children – High

Tendency to Bark – High

Overall Exercise Requirement – Daily walks and regular trips to the dog park will keep help keep a cavoodles energy levels under control. They often enjoy socializing with other dogs and can be trained to retrieve a ball.

Suitability as a Guard Dog – Medium

Ease of Transportation – High

Level of Aggression – Low

Other Animal Compatibility – High

What is the Cavoodle Temperament and Personality?

Since this is a mixed breed, they can lean on being either more Poodle or Cavalier-like in temperament. The typical Cavalier is affectionate and loves to be with the family, while a poodle can be more high-strung and need more mental stimulation.

They are also athletic, so consider agility or obedience competitions. Our Phoenix recently won the Pup Cup, a race to the finish line with 10 other puppies. He was focused, obedient and fast.

Like the poodle, the Cavoodle is an intelligent dog and lives for validation and praise. As they are fairly eager to please, they are easy to train.

But training early is important, since they really are attached at the hop. Without training the Cavoodle can develop destructive behaviors like most dogs from furniture chewing to rooting through garbage when left alone. They do not escape, and are not destructive by nature. They do not have a high prey drive, so you won’t find them bringing in dead kills.

Cavoodles are the ultimate lap dogs. They are moderate to low energy breed but can still be particularly playful at times. A simple game of tug or fetch and a quick walk will ensure all your Cavoodles needs are met.

Do Cavoodles Get On With Other Dogs?

Not aggressive by nature, Cavoodles typically will do great with other dogs and people. They are bright and friendly dogs that are easy-going and sociable since both of its parents have these characteristics.

Not many people are afraid of Cavoodles, so you can be confident he will find playmates with almost any dog. Except for larger breed dogs whose Owners may be hesitant over how easily breakable they look. This won’t stop a Cavoodle though he wants to play with every dog.

Do Cavoodles get on with other animals?

Introduced young the Cavoodle will get on with most animals. It also helps if the other animals are already established in the home before bringing your Cavoodle puppy home.

For instance, if you are bringing a Cavoodle home to a cat you may picture Tom and Jerry and be terrified for your cat. The opposite is true. Cats are actually very territorial animals and will usually be the ones to set the rules about how much interaction, as well as what type of interaction, they will have with the dog. So supervise during the introduction to avoid possible claw swiping.

Birds, rabbits, sheep, make sure you use supervision so all animals are happy and safe. Plus puppies love to chase and you may need to be on hand to avoid the Cavoodle puppy from chasing the living toys around the house.

With a little common sense and early supervision, Cavoodles will blend into a home with an established pet very quickly. No matter what animal.

Do Cavoodles Get on with Children?

Cavoodles are highly recommended by veterinarians and other dog professionals as a family pet due to their gentle disposition around children. They are a playful breed that enjoys interacting with well-behaved children.

The cavoodle dog also has a lot of patience and attempts to protect its family members by warning them of strangers and other perceived dangers.

What I love about the cavoodle is that it is very tolerant of children’s antics and will usually put up with the most annoying behaviors fro children, while trying to sneak away any chance they get. They are not a snappy breed, but like most dogs have their limits on what they will put up with. It is best to educate any child on how to handle a dog appropriately and avoid over-frustrating the pet.

Are Cavoodles barkers?

The cavoodle personality does not lend itself to obsessive barking, but they may bark to alert of strangers at the door.

Are Cavoodles Aggressive?

Definitely not. They are one of the most gentle-natured breeds around.

If you’re looking for a guard dog the cavoodle is probably not it. While they are likely to bark at any intruder, they are also going to be more likely to lick them to death.

Can Cavoodles be left alone?

The reason the cavoodle has boomed in popularity is that they have such an amicable and winning personality. They’re outgoing, playful and full of affection. With that said they don’t tolerate being alone and can suffer from separation anxiety if not socialized or trained. Since one of its parents is a Poodle, some Cavoodles can have a tendency to want a significant amount of attention and special treatment.

Do Cavoodles require walks?

Cavoodles are fairly mellow and relaxed dogs. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has one of the most laid back, spoiled personalities of all breeds. While the Poodle is fun-loving and excitable. Put it together and you have a dog that wants to lounge with you all day, but will be excited to go for any games or activities outside the home like walking, hiking, visits to the park.

As long as they are with their family they won’t mind a change in surroundings, like a vacation.

Because of their small stature, they require little exercise and half an hour a day should do it. You’ll find the perfect timing depending on its personality traits. My straight-haired cavoodle looks like a Cavalier but has a Poodle soul. He needs an hour a day to be exhausted all day.

After a walk, your Cavoodle will be happy to watch TV all day with you. And watch he can!

Is the Cavoodle a good dog?

The Cavoodle personality inherits a love for people from the laid-back Cavalier, which was bred to be a companion dog. They also inherited the Poodle’s high intelligence and sense of loyalty making the Cavoodle the perfect combination.

It’s a lively and affectionate companion who makes wonderful companions for the old or the young. The gentle nature lends itself to children, as does its playfulness.

What problems do Cavoodles have?

The best part about crossbreed if they tend to avoid all the negative diseases that come from a pure breed. For more information on health, click here.

  1. I have a cavoodle who is 6 months old and is into everything unfortunately despite puppy training but must admit have not taken him out for a walk every day. He has a need to cheq everything despite all the toys we have bought him. Mentally his mind races a hundred miles a hour and only really settles around 730pm at night but does have 2 short naps in the day. We are home with him and our older dog every day so I can only conclude he has more poodle character in him but has the short coat of a cavalier. Any suggestions on how to slow him down?
